Product Categories and How to Request a New Category

Product categories help organize your products, making it easier for customers to find what they’re looking for. In this guide, we’ll explain what product categories are, why they matter, and how you can request a new category if needed. 

What Are Product Categories? 

Product categories are groups that help you organize similar products. For example, if you sell different types of oils, you can create categories like  Motor OilHydraulic Oil , or  Mineral Oil . This makes it easier for customers to find specific products quickly. 

Why Are Product Categories Important? 

  • Easy Navigation: Customers can quickly find what they need by looking in specific categories. 
  • Better Product Organization: You can manage your products better by grouping them into categories. 
  • Improved Search: Categories make it easier to search for and find products. 

Where Are Product Categories Used? 

Categories are shown on your store’s product page. Customers can either browse all products or filter by category to see only the items they’re interested in. As a seller, categories help you manage your inventory by grouping similar products. 

How to Request a New Category 

Sometimes the existing categories may not work for your products. If that happens, you can ask the admin to create a new category. Here’s how you do it: 

  1. Go to the Product Categories Page: 
    • From your dashboard, click on the  Products section, then select  Product Categories . This will show you all the existing categories. 
  2. View the Current Categories: 
    • On the page, you will see a list of categories. For example, categories like  Motor Oil > Viscosity or  Motor Oil > Gear Oil may already be listed. 
  3. Request a New Category: 
    • If you need a new category, click on the  Request New Category button. 

 

  1. Fill Out the Request Form: 
    • A pop-up form will appear where you need to enter: 
      • Name: The name of the new category. 
      • Short Description: A brief description of the new category. 
      • Relevant Category (If Exists): If your new category fits into an existing category, select it from the dropdown. 

 

  1. Submit the Request: 
    • After filling out the form, click  Submit to send your request to the admin. 

What Happens After You Request a New Category? 

Once you submit your request, the admin will review it. They will check if the new category fits with the existing ones and either approve or reject it. If your request is approved, the new category will be added, and you can start adding products to it. 

Why Request a New Category? 

  • Better Organization: If the existing categories don’t fit your products, a new category helps keep things organized. 
  • Easier for Customers: New categories help customers find products quickly. 
  • Better Search Results: When products are organized into categories, customers can easily filter through them.
